Ahead of their new EP, MALCOM are releasing a new song; “God ain’t gonna forgive me”. Now this single is just amazing, the build up with the blues style bass, Caz Donaghy’s vocals drawing you in, flawless. I am normally apprehensive when listening to new artists, not exactly out of fear but more uncertainty and they have proved me completely wrong for having that mindset.
Their single which they released not long ago “hard working blues” works perfectly as an interlude of sorts to this next one. It’s a match made in heaven. Blues music has dropped in commonality over the last twenty or so years, in my opinion anyway, and its great to see a young band breathe new life into the genre, which could possibly bring the blues back into the mainstream music scene.
The whole vibe of the single feels like its been taken out of a Peaky Blinders episode, it fits right into an opening scene. I mean even the lyrics, God ain’t gonna forgive me, I don’t think anyone could sit there and say it wouldn’t fit in, or if they did they are massive liars.
The whole thing reminds me of an early Arctic Monkeys, yes a cliché statement to say about an indie band but it has the exact same feel as the Humbug era. If the EP is anything like this, be prepared is the only advice I can give for you.
May I also say an unironic guitar solo in 2026? The indie music scene may be back. It brought a lot of nostalgia, not in a way of I’ve heard this before but in a way of it reminded me of the early 2000s music scene and I love it.
If you wanted me to describe this single in one word, it would simply have to be: “belter!” .
‘God Ain’t Gonna Forgive Me’ releases 10/04/2026.
